4. Data from the primary market/ population
5. Data direct from the population.
Dis advantages.
1. Large volume of data.
2. Huge volume of population.
3. Time consuming
4. Direct and personal intervention has to be there.
5. Raw data.
Lot more of advatages and dis advantages are there, shall let you know later.
Primary data collection:
Advantages - 1. first hand experience of the customer recorded. 2. Help customer in giving his feed back, otherwise would not have been given for want of time. 3. Clearly demarcated interest could be identified based on age, style of living, sex, and other divisions in societly.
Disadvantages - 1. Possibility of improper selection of field leading to wrong results and conclusion 2. Time consuming 3. the surveyors influence.
VR
Advantages:
1. Most reliable form of data
2. Direct interaction with the customers
3. Most unbiased form of data
Disadvantages:
1. Usually expensive
2. Comprehension potential of the respondents a major issue
3. Takes more time
4. Will create false results if, not conducted properly
5. Skill and expertise of researcher matters a lot
I thought you were looking for pros/cons of various ways to collect primary data:
Telephone: still the best way to get a representative sample (everyone has a phone in the U.S) but it is much more costly than say, online. But it is faster than mall based or mail.
Mall intercept: use those wonderful people at the mall with clipboards. With so many malls in the U.S. you can get an okay sample, but you are only getting people who go to the mall. You have the downside also of huge interviewer bias- they don't tend to be very good and lots of room for error in just executing the survey/test. But it is good for product tests and other things you can't do by phone or online (i.e you can't do the Pepsi challenge by phone). Faster than mail, slower than phone(usually).
Mail:; again, you can get a great sample, but you have to allow lots of time since you mail out the survey, they get it, don't care about it, and then finally fill it out. So you don't have the problems of the person on the phone misreading questions, you can include pictures, etc. but it will take time and cost a lot since the return rate will be low. No interviewer error- but respondent error goes up (misreading/misunderstanding).
Online: can be very fast to get basic results though there are some issues with the sample if you want seniors, lower-income, etc. (so not as representative). But you can show videos, photos, etc. that you can't do in a phone interview. You also maintain control of the images, etc. (versus mail). And overall, you can buy a good sample so it will come close to phon survey.
door-to-door- nobody does this in the U.S, really. Very costly. Usually not necessary in most cases. Can be dangerous for your interviewers. Very time consuming, etc.
CLT- central location used for product testing. Recruit by phone to come to classroom-like setting to try products.
And then there are a myriad of combos: phone-mail-phone- contact by phone, send product, call back to get evaluation (so good for in-home product tests). Phone, internet- call to find people but then complete questionnaire online to show exhibits, etc. And it goes on.
There is perfect way to go, however, so you have to focus on what you need to learn and then that will help drive how you do the test.
i really don't know ?
