Do you think a sales rep who receives a base pay of $45,000 would be motivated 2 sell or is the salary 2 high?

Answer:
Put him on a quota. He either makes the numbers or he gets fired.
I guess it depends on the product. I have interviewed with companies that the base was $80,000, but it was big medical equipment, so the sales are less frequent, but with high commission. Where a product that has frequent sales may need less of a base.
Most sales reps have nice base salaries but quotas that they must make or lose the job. You can get $45,000 a year but if you only make it for six months, so much for the income. If you have to sell 50 or 100 items to reach your goal you will make alot more than the base and keep your job. That's the true motivation. Some sales reps easily make $100,000 a year with a $45,000 base. Others are in the unemployment line.
Motivation doesn't come from your salary.you either have it or you don't. Salesmanship is doing selling a product or idea you believe in and then reaping the monetary benefit from your belief in the product or idea. Ive been a salesman for quite a while.I've just recently learned some new tips from mycreditadvise.com there I found some networking tips that really helped me. I hope you are making that base with an uncapped bonus plan!
