What's the best kind of website to build for making money?
Answers:
One of the easiest ways to start making money through an internet site is by building your own affiliate marketing site. Affiliate marketing is simply suggesting a product to a person and directing them to a site that sells the product. When the person clicks on your personal link and eventually purchases from the site you get a percentage of whatever was bought.
Another way is through Google Adsense. Instead of going out and finding advertisers for your source you can sign up with Google and simply add the ads to your site. Any time someone clicks on a link you make $.
Although neither of these ways is probably going to make you enough to quit your day job they do offer you a good start at some residual income. It will require some work though.
First thing to decide is a site theme. You are going to want to find something that is broad enough that people will be looking for it but narrow enough that there isn't an overwhelming amount of information on it. In other words you want to be listed in the search engines but not on the 4th or 5th page of results.
The way I did this was to get a small notebook and carry it in my back pocket. Anytime during the day while I was out or at work I would come across ideas all day long. Stuff I was interested in, something I wanted to learn more about, a job I was skilled at, something my son is interested in that I could be involved with, etc. You get the idea. Anything. When I ran across these ideas I would quickly jot them down in my notebook so I wouldn't forget.
When I got home I would use Brainstorm It! from SBI the program I used to build my site to research a few of my top ideas for supply and demand results. (You said no spammy answers but this is the truth. I will only give you links to tools that are completely free to respect your wishes.) You can use a site called Wordtracker to do a free trial of their research program if you already have a method for building your site.
One of my first ideas was woodworking. It was an easy fit for me because I have been a professional furniture maker for about 10 years. The problen is the theme of woodworking is way too broad. So I though maybe a specified type of woodworking such as cabinetmaking but it was still to broad and some others were far too narrow to build a whole site around. I ran down a list of different woodworking ideas and my solution was to build a site based on the theme of woodworking machinery and tools. This theme was broad enough to attract visitors and allowed my to make pages with the themes that were too narrow.
This answer is getting long winded and you specifically asked for ideas on a type of site but I would like to suggest you check out the program I used to build my site

Even if you choose not to use their program they also offer free ebooks on internet marketing. I'm going to be honest with you they are made to market you to use SBI but they are still useful even if you decide not to. Also, I know how much I hate downloading asomething from the internet and then having my email flooded with junk mail from the site I downloaded from, This will not happen with this site they ask for no personal information until you decide to buy from them.
My first suggestion is a general ebook about how to successfully build a web business download it here:

The blog is basically monetised using google ads and clickbank links.
