What does Yahoo! do with all of our answers?

I'm sure they don't care about individual statements and certainly don't have the staff to read every entry. But there must be some serious money in it for them. Are they tracking trends? Looking for patterns? Relational databases? Whatever they are getting has to be of value to some marketers and advertisers, and YA has to be a profit center. Any ideas?

Answer:
Bingo. Brand loyalty.

Google has the lead in search marketing and advertising. Yahoo is gaining ground.

This forum is unique, though not the place I'd go if I wanted accurate information. Many posts are flat out wrong. But it's fun.

The key is that Yahoo can get you engaged and offer up another service.mail, 360 pages etc. The other Yahoo products have plenty of advertising.

Finally, YA on its own doesn't have to be a profit center to be of value to Yahoo. It's simple to scan every question and answer and come up with keyword strings. That, in turn, enables Yahoo to fine tune their search engine in a warm and fuzzy way.
I don't think so, because the room on the servers would cost too much money to maintain and provide little benefit.

As you can see, there is little to no advertising in yahoo answers, so there is no point in tracking questions/answers.

P.S. All questions and answers are deleted within a few wks of being posted.

I troll for information on what young people are thinking about current events. I'm a journalist and I skip over the pundits who know everything and constantly direct the questioner to look at wikipedia or write long essays about the subject. Boring show offs. There are others out there tracking trends.
