Ok to require a customer to make a purchase to enter give away?

I work for a business in Columbus, Ohio. My boss wants us to advertise an i-pod giveaway by saying "Place an order with us today, and you will be entered in a drawing for an i-pod." I am not sure that it's legit to require someone to make a purchase to be entered in a give away like this. Does anyone know?

Answer:
In order for it to be legal, there has to be an alternate method of entry for those not making a purchase. In other words, in your promotional material, you may want to put the words "To enter without purchase, send your NAZ on 3x5 card to (insert address here).
You would have to check with your legal department, but I think you may be correct. Looking at all of the major contests, there is always the option to participate w/o purchasing.
I believe you can legally advertise like that as long as there is a disclaimer advising of how to enter the contest without making a purchase. You can make it a little more difficult for those who don't make a purchase to enter (ie. they have to request an entry form by mail vs. being automatically entered) but you do have to give them the option to participate
It's legitimate as long as the contest discloses purchase is required to enter.
