Difference between poster and advertisement?

Answers:
A poster is a form of advertising. The definition of advertising is using any paid medium to distribute a message.

Even if you print the posters yourself you are paying for the materials. That makes it advertising.
A poster is just a particular kind of advertisement, a large sheet (or several sheets) of paper carrying a message and stuck up where passers-by can see it.

Advertisement is a much more general term. It covers everything from personals in newspapers through advertising in magazines to commercials on television. And includes posters.
