Depends on if the advertiser is any good or not. A good advertiser that has a good product won't have to sell it because it would be made to enhance your lifestyle or ideas.

So, I believe it is definitely both when it comes from a skilled advertiser.

People don't buy products for the sake of a product, they buy to enhance their lifestyle or their perceptions.
