I have been told I have a very good speaking voice, how do I go about getting voiceover work?

It's not just a good voice, but I also am able to imitate a wide range of regional accents, plus foreign accents, plus I speak Spanish fluently. Anyone out there need someone to do any voiceover stuf (whether for adverts, tv, radio, corporate...whatever!!)

Answer:
1. I don't know where you live. Get a listing of all audio production houses in your area from the Yellow Pages or internet.

2. Call them. Ask if/when they hold open auditions for voice talents. Sometimes it's after hours, sometimes weekends. Usually once every 1-2 months. Make a list of the voices you can do, and PRACTICE.

To realise how bad or good you are, record your voice at home reading a variety of stuff. Capture it on your PC, and listen back via headphones (they show up imperfections better.) If you're screechy, flat, lack depth, or 'spitty' (you can hear saliva on every word), try to fix it ASAP. Get someone else's opinion, not yours.

3. The audition. This (usually) will be in the format 'here's the standard announcer script. OK, now show us what else you can do.' Bring your own script for those 'extras'. Don't try to wing it. Be ready.

It's not as easy as it looks, BTW.

You will need to learn how to project into a mike, how far away to stand, how to avoid 'popping' on 'p's and 'b's. (Your first audition tape is gonna suck, big-time, compared to what you'll be able to do in 5-10 years from now.)

If you've never done this before, and you're getting it wrong in the recording booth, ASK THE ENGINEER FOR ADVICE. BE FRIENDLY, AND DON'T PISS HIM OFF. You're just one of 100 guys they see a month. He can dust you off if he wants. So don't be an as*hole at the recording - it's a small industry, and word gets round.

4. Ask them for a copy of the audition, burned on CD-R. They don't have to do this, but most will. A few - very few - will insist that you are exclusive to them, but if you're just starting off they don't hassle you too much.

Ta-da. You've got something to sell now.

Dupe 20 CDs, get an artist friend to do a NEAT (i.e. legible) but creative CD cover for you, laminate it properly, LABEL IT RIGHT, send it out to other audio houses. (With your contact no. of course)

Welcome to the jungle!
So do i. Email me, we could make this a team effort
fill out an application like anyone else.
Speak to your local BBC station. You may be offerred a voluntary production position, but many presenters have started that way. This way your voice will be heard by a wide range of people and you may be "spotted" for voice over work.
You could post your add in the Internet, distribute your CV in local radio stations in your city, and consider volunteer or part-time working possibilities. As soon as you start working and do it with quality, and your voice is liked, you can be offered a variety of voiceover work.
