How to add external links to my site?

I add my blog to Google webmaster tool. Now it has index with lower rank. I add a site map also. But Google has not found any external links to my blog although there is some external links.

Answers:
Google does not show all the links that it knows about when you use the link: command. According to them they just show a 'sample'.

Use Yahoo Site Explorer http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/... for a better idea of the inbound links to your site.
