Does anyone know if its ok to advertise on this?

He is right, if you had read the rules, spam of any kind is wrong.
Just do what I do, use your company name (or part of it) as your username.
Then you can also ask or answer questions using certain criteria that doesn't look like pure advertising, such as freemedicalhelp, I do my best advertising on the medical Q&A area.
You can also use your site as a source if you have the answer in your site!
I just come here and elsewhere when I am tired of medical Q&A's.
