Vertical marketing concentrates on a specific target group that encompasses qualities determined by the benefits and features of the product or service being offered. For instance, a window manufacturer might sell to whole hardware stores or builders or contractors in the United States.
But as they add doors and siding and change their targets, they are doing horizontal marketing.
The main difference is focus.
A narrow focus usually means vertical or in alignment.
The horizontal line allows a larger, more all encompassing approach that opens up more profit area.
This line moves out in all directions as the company increases the options for the consumer and also goes after the bigger marketplace.
